DP-750 study resources: free official material

Updated October 9, 2026

The best DP-750 resources are mostly free: Microsoft’s study guide with the skills outline, the official practice assessment, the Azure Databricks documentation, and a workspace where you build things. Add realistic practice questions to find your weak domain. The thing to be careful about is old material, because the exam uses current product names and Databricks renames and replaces features regularly.

Start with the official material

The study guide. The official DP-750 study guide lists the four domains, every objective and the change log. The version dated October 19, 2026 is the one to follow. Keep it open while you study.

The certification page. The Azure Databricks Data Engineer Associate page gives the duration, languages, retake rules and scheduling link.

The practice assessment. Microsoft states that the practice assessment is on AI Skills Navigator and requires sign-in. Take it once at the start and once near the end.

The exam sandbox. The exam sandbox shows the question interface in ten minutes.

Instructor-led course. Microsoft lists a course for the exam, DP-750T00-A: Implement data engineering solutions using Azure Databricks. Self-paced learning paths for the exam are linked from the certification page.

Documentation. The study guide links to the Azure Databricks documentation, Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Entra and Azure Monitor documentation. For each objective in the outline, the quickstarts and how-to guides are the closest thing to the source of truth.

Lab work is the differentiator

DP-750 describes a situation and asks what to choose or fix. Five labs cover most of it:

  1. Set up and secure. Create catalogs for dev and prod, a managed and an external table, a foreign catalog if you have a database, grants to a group, a row filter, a column mask and a Key Vault-backed secret scope.
  2. Ingest three ways. Load the same folder with COPY INTO, a notebook and Auto Loader; read events from a hub with Structured Streaming and a checkpoint.
  3. Model and merge. Build an SCD type 2 table, apply a CDC feed with MERGE, and add expectations in a declarative pipeline.
  4. Orchestrate and deploy. Build a multi-task job with a file arrival trigger, retries and alerts; package it in a bundle and deploy to two targets with the CLI.
  5. Tune and monitor. Create skew, find it in the Spark UI and query profile, run OPTIMIZE and VACUUM, stream logs to Log Analytics and add an Azure Monitor alert.

Stop compute and delete test resources after each session.

Worth paying for

Practice tests written against the current outline. Their value is diagnosis. The free 20-question test is weighted like the real exam and is a good first check.

A small lab budget. Serverless and job compute make short labs inexpensive if you shut things down.

What to avoid

Outdated material. If a resource uses Delta Live Tables or Asset Bundles throughout and has no mention of Lakeflow, it predates the current outline. Use it only alongside the official skills list.

Braindumps. They break Microsoft’s exam rules, risk revocation of your certifications, and do not help with scenario questions.

Click-path memorisation. Menus move; the exam asks which feature, command or setting meets a requirement.

A sensible order

  1. Read the study guide and take the practice assessment cold.
  2. Follow the study plan and the labs above.
  3. Take the practice test and find your weakest domain.
  4. Repeat that domain’s lab and re-read its guide.
  5. Book when you score 80% or more twice in a row.
