DP-600 exam format: questions, score and cost
DP-600 gives you 100 minutes, requires a scaled score of 700 on a scale of 1 to 1000, and is priced by the country or region where you take it. Microsoft does not publish the number of questions. The October 19, 2026 change
The English version of the exam is updated on October 19, 2026, and Microsoft’s study guide publishes the skills measured as of that date. Localised versions follow later: the study guide says they are updated roughly eight weeks after English, though that schedule is not guaranteed. The previous version of the outline had four skill areas; this guide does not reproduce it, because the official page now shows only the new one.
What that means for you:
- If you book an English exam on or after October 19, 2026, the outline below applies.
- If you book before that date, or sit a localised version soon after, you may be tested on the previous outline. Check the study guide on Microsoft Learn and the details at booking.
- Either way, the product has not changed. The same Fabric skills are being regrouped, so most study material still helps. The October 2026 changes page lists what is new.
The three domains
| Domain | Weight |
|---|---|
| Maintain a data analytics solution | 25–30% |
| Prepare data | 45–50% |
| Implement and manage semantic models | 25–30% |
What the weights mean for revision
Prepare data (45–50%) is the exam’s centre of gravity. It splits into getting data (connections, OneLake catalog, Real-Time hub, choosing between data stores), transforming data (views, functions, stored procedures, star schemas, denormalising, joins, duplicates and nulls) and querying data in the visual query editor, SQL, KQL and DAX. Hands-on time in a lakehouse and a warehouse pays back more here than anywhere else.
Maintain a data analytics solution (25–30%) covers security and governance (workspace, item, row, column, object and file access, sensitivity labels, endorsement) and the development lifecycle (Git, .pbip projects, deployment pipelines, impact analysis, the XMLA endpoint, templates). It is a lot of small, factual objectives, so a cheat sheet helps.
Implement and manage semantic models (25–30%) is where DAX, storage modes, composite models, calculation groups, Direct Lake and incremental refresh live. Expect scenario questions that ask which design avoids a performance or fallback problem.
The practice assessment and sandbox
DP-600 has a free official practice assessment on Microsoft Learn. Use it once early to find your weak domain and once late to check your readiness. It shows the style and difficulty of the questions, not their exact format. The exam sandbox lets you try the interface and question types.
Question types
Expect the usual Microsoft mix: single-answer and multiple-answer multiple choice, ordering, dropdown completion of code (for example T-SQL or DAX), yes/no statement series about one scenario, and case studies with several questions on one scenario. Microsoft notes that the exam may include interactive components. The audience profile names SQL, KQL and DAX, so be ready to read and complete queries.
Scaled score and time
700 out of 1000 is not 70% correct, because Microsoft scales scores and does not publish the conversion. Aim for a steady 80% on realistic practice material. A hundred minutes is enough if you do not stall. Do not spend more than a couple of minutes on one question, and keep a reserve for any case study.
Preview features
Microsoft states that most questions cover generally available features, but preview features may appear if they are commonly used. Fabric changes quickly, so prefer the current documentation over older blog posts.
Languages, retakes and renewal
If the exam is not offered in your language, you can request an additional 30 minutes. A failed attempt can be retaken after 24 hours; later retakes wait longer under Microsoft’s retake policy. The credential lasts 12 months and renews through a free online assessment on Microsoft Learn. For costs across vendors see certification costs, and for the day itself see the exam day guide.
