DP-600, Implementing Analytics Solutions Using Microsoft Fabric, is the exam behind the Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate credential. It is aimed at people who design, build and manage the analytical assets in Microsoft Fabric: lakehouses, warehouses, and the semantic models that Power BI reports sit on. You are expected to query and analyse data with SQL, KQL and DAX, and to secure and govern what you build.
The analytics engineer sits between the data engineer, who lands and transforms raw data, and the report author, who builds visuals. Your job is the layer in the middle: prepared, well-modelled, secured data that people can trust and query quickly. That is why the exam mixes T-SQL and lakehouse design with star schemas, DAX, Direct Lake and deployment pipelines.
Timing matters. Microsoft updates the English exam on October 19, 2026, and publishes the skills outline as of that date. This guide follows that outline. See what changed in October 2026 before you book.
What the exam covers
| Skill area | Weight |
|---|---|
| Maintain a data analytics solution | 25–30% |
| Prepare data | 45–50% |
| Implement and manage semantic models | 25–30% |
Prepare data is almost half the exam. It covers getting data into Fabric, transforming it in lakehouses and warehouses, and querying it with the visual query editor, SQL, KQL and DAX. Semantic models and governance share the other half roughly equally.
Where to start
Read the exam format for the mechanics and the outline change. If you are choosing between Fabric certifications, DP-600 versus DP-700 explains the split between analytics engineer and data engineer; see also the DP-700 hub and, for report-focused work, PL-300. The study plan fits into four weeks if you already work with Fabric or Power BI.
