The Databricks Certified Generative AI Engineer Associate exam tests the full lifecycle of building generative AI applications on Databricks — from design and data preparation through to deployment, governance and monitoring.
Databricks recommends 6+ months of hands-on experience with generative AI tasks. There are no formal prerequisites, but this is a practitioner’s exam: the emphasis throughout is on building RAG applications and LLM chains that actually work on the platform.

Six sections, and the distribution is clear about priorities. Application development and deployment together are 52% of the exam. Design and data preparation are 14% each, and the two smallest sections — governance at 8% and evaluation and monitoring at 12% — are worth 20% between them.
Put plainly: this exam is mostly about building and shipping, with a fifth of it about doing so responsibly and knowing whether it works.
Format at a glance
45 scored questions in 90 minutes, multiple choice only, delivered online or at a test centre. Databricks notes that unscored items may also be included, so you may see more than 45. The fee is $200, and certification is valid for two years before recertification.
