These are the two major low-code agent-building certifications, and they are strikingly parallel. Agentforce Specialist builds agents on the Salesforce Platform. AB-620 builds them in Microsoft Copilot Studio.
You almost certainly do not choose between them on merit. You choose the one matching the platform your organisation runs.

Both exams cover MCP and A2A explicitly. Two competing vendors converging on the same open protocols is the clearest signal in either syllabus that agent interoperability is becoming standard rather than proprietary.
Where they genuinely differ
Data grounding is heavier on Salesforce. Data 360 Fundamentals is a full 20% section covering chunking, indexing and retrievers. AB-620 treats knowledge sources as one part of a larger integration domain.
Integration is heavier on Microsoft. AB-620’s largest domain is 40–45% on connectors, REST APIs, MCP tools, computer use and Fabric. Agentforce assumes you are working within Salesforce.
Scoring differs. Salesforce publishes a flat 72%, so you know you need 44 of 60. Microsoft scales to 700 of 1000, which cannot be converted to a question count.
Salesforce tracks releases. Questions align to a specific release, and an annual Trailhead module is mandatory. Microsoft renews annually too, but does not tie the exam to a release version.
Which should you take?
Agentforce Specialist if your organisation runs on Salesforce, your agents need Salesforce data and objects, and your work happens in Agent Builder and Prompt Builder.
AB-620 if your organisation runs on Microsoft 365 and the Power Platform, and your agents surface in Teams or Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Both only if you are a consultant delivering on both platforms. The conceptual overlap means the second is meaningfully cheaper than the first — the agent design thinking transfers, even though none of the configuration does.
If you are choosing a platform career
There is no technical argument either way; both are credible. The practical question is which ecosystem your local job market hires for. Both certifications are ecosystem-bound, and neither transfers.
