AB-731 study resources
The best AB-731 resources are free: Microsoft’s study guide with the skills outline, the free practice assessment, the exam sandbox and the documentation the study guide links. Add realistic practice questions to find weak areas. Because the exam was refreshed in July 2026, avoid older AI-leader material that predates the Foundry Tools naming.

Documentation the study guide points to
- Microsoft 365 Copilot service description: what Copilot includes, and how versions differ.
- Microsoft Copilot Studio documentation: agents, knowledge sources, publishing.
- Azure AI Foundry documentation: models, Foundry Tools and the platform.
Skim these for concepts and vocabulary. You do not need to learn the click paths, as the exam does not test configuration.
Hands-on, without code
- Use Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat on a real task and try different prompt styles.
- If you have access, try Researcher and Analyst on a small question each.
- Open Copilot Studio and read how an agent is created and what knowledge sources it takes.
- Look at the Foundry model catalogue and compare two models on capability and cost notes.
Practice questions
Use the free sample questions and the 20-question practice test on this site. Use the official practice assessment as the checkpoint at the end. See skills outline for how to read an outline, and the glossary for terms.
What to skip
- Deep technical tutorials on training models or writing code; the exam says you are not expected to code.
- Pricing tables; prices vary and are not tested as numbers.
- Third-party questions labelled as real exam content; these are not legitimate preparation and break Microsoft’s exam policies.
For a plan around these resources, see the 4-week study plan.
How to use the resources in order
Start with the study guide and read the three skill areas once, without notes, to see what you already know. Mark each bullet green, amber or red. Then work through the documentation for the amber and red items only. Use the practice assessment after about two weeks, not at the start, so that it measures learning rather than guessing. Finish with timed practice sets and a last read of the cheat sheet.
Keeping up with changes
Microsoft refreshes outlines from time to time, and the study guide holds a change log that shows which skill areas moved. Check it a few days before you book. The July 22, 2026 update touched the audience profile, the Foundry Tools objectives and the adoption planning objectives, so material written before that date may describe those parts differently. The exam changes page on this site tracks outline updates too.
