AB-730 study resources

Updated October 9, 2026

The best AB-730 resources are free: Microsoft’s study guide, the free practice assessment on the certification page, the exam sandbox, the official Microsoft 365 Copilot documentation, and hands-on time with Copilot itself. Add realistic practice questions to find your weak domain. Be careful with age, because Copilot features and names change quickly and the exam outline changes on October 20, 2026.

Start with the official material

The study guide. Microsoft’s AB-730 study guide lists every skill area with its weight and the bullets under each objective, plus a change log between the old and new outline. Read it first and keep it open. It is the only authoritative list of what can be tested. Find it linked from the certification page at Microsoft Certified: AI Business Professional on Microsoft Learn.

The certification page. It carries the exam details, links to Microsoft’s training for the exam, the practice assessment and the sandbox. The training offered there is Microsoft’s own, and what it contains can change, so open the page rather than relying on a list here.

The free practice assessment. Microsoft publishes one for AB-730 on the certification page. It shows the style and difficulty of the questions. Take it once early to find your starting point and once at the end. It may reflect the outline in force when it was written, so compare its topics with the current study guide.

The exam sandbox. A demo of the exam interface and question types. Ten minutes there removes surprises.

Exam prep video. The certification page links a Microsoft video with tips for this exam.

Documentation

The study guide itself points to the Microsoft 365 Copilot documentation, the Microsoft 365 documentation and Microsoft’s generative AI guidance on Microsoft Learn, along with the Microsoft 365 Copilot community hub. These are useful for the exact feature names that the exam uses. Read about prompts, chats, notebooks, pages, agents and Cowork, but skim: the exam asks what a feature is for, not how an admin configures it.

Hands-on practice

If you have access to Microsoft 365 Copilot, spend an hour on each domain:

  1. Prompts: write a prompt, refine it twice, save it, schedule it and share it.
  2. Chats: find an old chat, rename one, delete one, and create a notebook.
  3. Content: draft, analyse and chart in Word, Excel and PowerPoint, then check the result against your brief.
  4. Meetings: use the recap and catchup features in a real or test meeting.
  5. Agents: try a prebuilt agent and filter your chats by it. If Cowork is available to you, delegate a small task and review its plan.

If you have no licence, rely on the practice assessment, the sandbox, the documentation and practice questions.

Worth paying for

Practice tests written against the current outline. Their value is diagnosis: they show which domain is weakest and train you to spot look-alike answers. Good ones explain why each wrong option is wrong. The free 20-question test here is weighted like the real exam and is a good first check.

What to avoid

Outdated material. Anything written before the October 20, 2026 update may treat agent building as part of the prompts domain, and may omit Cowork. Check any course against the current study guide.

Braindumps. They break Microsoft’s exam agreement, risk revocation of your certifications, and do not help with scenario questions.

Admin-level courses. The exam does not expect tenant administration. That belongs to AB-900.

A sensible order

  1. Read the study guide.
  2. Take the practice assessment cold.
  3. Follow the four-week study plan with the domain guides.
  4. Take the practice test.
  5. Revisit your weakest domain.
  6. Book once you reach 80% twice in a row.
