AB-730 exam tips: how to pass in 45 minutes
The best AB-730 tips are about reading, not memorising: identify what the person in the scenario wants to do, choose the Copilot feature that does exactly that, and never skip the verification step when risk is involved. With 45 minutes and no published question count, steady pacing matters more than anything else. These tips apply to the outline in force from October 20, 2026.
Pace yourself
Microsoft does not publish the number of questions, so you cannot divide the time up front. Instead, never spend more than about a minute on a first pass. Mark the question, take your best guess, and move on. Use the remaining time to return to flagged items. Unanswered questions score nothing, so always select something.
Read the verb
Most scenarios contain a verb that points to the feature.
| Verb in the scenario | Think |
|---|---|
| Repeat, every week, automatically | Schedule a prompt |
| Reuse, same wording | Save a prompt |
| Give colleagues the same prompt | Share a prompt |
| Collect related material | Notebook |
| Co-create content | Copilot Pages |
| Join late | Real-time catchup |
| After the meeting | Intelligent recap |
| Hand off a multi-step job | Copilot Cowork |
| Repeatable specialist job | Agent |
Match the check to the risk
Responsible AI questions have a pattern. The answer that adds a verification step suited to the risk usually wins: a source check for a fact, human review for a customer-facing message, caution with untrusted content for prompt injection. Answers that trust the AI to check itself, or that ignore the risk, are usually wrong.
Prebuilt first
When the choice is between a prebuilt agent and a custom one, or a prebuilt and a custom skill, the exam favours the simpler option that meets the need. Choose custom only when the scenario says the need is specific to the organisation.
Beware of look-alikes
Eliminate answers that are real features used for the wrong job. Sharing is not scheduling. A chat is not a notebook. A page is not a prompt. Real-time catchup is not recap. If two answers both seem possible, ask which one fits the timing and the audience in the question.
Know the new material
About a quarter of the exam is the agents domain. Read every bullet under it in Microsoft’s study guide, because older books and videos may not mention Cowork at all.
Before the day
- Take the free practice assessment and the exam sandbox.
- Book with a personal Microsoft account.
- Read the exam day guide for ID, room and check-in rules for online delivery.
- Take the practice test under a 25-minute limit and review every miss.
During the exam
- Read the last sentence of the scenario first, to see what is being asked.
- Underline the constraint: who, when, how often, which app.
- Eliminate two options you can rule out.
- Choose, flag if unsure, move on.
- In the last five minutes, check any multi-select questions for the number of answers required.
If you fail
You can retake after 24 hours, then 14 days between later attempts. Use the score report to see which area was weakest, then revisit that domain guide in this section.
