AB-730, AI Business Professional, is Microsoft’s exam for people who use generative AI in their daily work rather than build it. Passing it earns the Microsoft Certified: AI Business Professional credential. Microsoft describes the candidate as someone who uses Microsoft 365 Copilot and agents to improve daily work and make better business decisions, without writing code or building AI apps.
It is a hands-on-minded business exam, not a technical one. You are asked how to write and refine a prompt, where to find an old chat, which Microsoft 365 app to use for a task, when a prebuilt agent is the right tool, and how to check an AI answer before you rely on it. The time limit is 45 minutes and the passing score is 700 on a scale of 1 to 1000.
The English exam changes on October 20, 2026. The guides in this section follow the new outline, which has four skill areas instead of three and adds Microsoft Copilot Cowork and agents as a domain of their own.
What the exam covers
These are the skill areas in Microsoft’s outline as of October 20, 2026.
| Skill area | Weight |
|---|---|
| Understand generative AI fundamentals | 25–30% |
| Manage prompts and chats by using Microsoft 365 Copilot | 20–25% |
| Manage business content and collaboration by using Microsoft 365 Copilot | 20–25% |
| Drive business outcomes by using agents | 20–25% |
Fundamentals is the largest single area, and it is less about theory than about judgement: what context shapes an answer, which risks apply, and what a sensible human check looks like. The other three areas are practical. If you use Copilot at work every day, you already know much of it; the exam rewards knowing the exact feature names and where each one fits.
Where to start

If your role is administering Copilot rather than using it, the right exam is probably AB-900. If you lead AI adoption and make investment decisions, look at AB-731.
