AB-620 study plan: pass in 4 weeks
This plan assumes you already build agents in Copilot Studio at a basic level and can give it 8–10 hours a week. If you have never configured an agent with knowledge sources, instructions, tools and topics, start with the prerequisites — Microsoft assumes that skill before the exam begins.
You need a Copilot Studio environment you can build in. This exam cannot be passed from reading alone; the integration domain is 40–45% and it is all mechanisms you have to have wired up at least once.
Week 1: plan and configure (30–35%)
Planning first, because it frames everything else.
- Work through the planning objectives deliberately: integration with enterprise systems, identity strategy, channels and deployment, responsible AI, security and governance, reusable components, and designing for internal versus external audiences.
- Build agent flows: inputs and outputs, actions and connectors, error handling, and monitoring.
- Build a human-in-the-loop agent flow specifically. It is called out separately in the outline and it is the answer to any scenario involving an irreversible or sensitive action.
- Work through topics: adding flows and tools, response formatting, custom prompts, custom knowledge sources, Send HTTP request, generative answers nodes, adaptive cards and variables.
Weeks 2 and 3: integrate and extend (40–45%)
Two weeks for the biggest domain. Build one thing for each mechanism.
Week 2 — knowledge and tools:
- Connect to Copilot connectors, Power Platform connectors, and Azure AI Search.
- Add a tool from an existing custom connector.
- Add a REST API to an agent.
- Configure MCP tools.
- Configure and monitor computer use, and understand when it is the right answer — no API available.
Week 3 — multi-agent and Azure:
- Design a multi-agent solution in Copilot Studio.
- Integrate a Foundry agent, and an existing Copilot Studio agent.
- Integrate a Fabric data agent.
- Build a multi-agent solution using the A2A protocol.
- Configure generative answers with Azure AI Search plus Foundry, custom prompts against the Foundry model catalog, and monitoring through Application Insights.
Week 4: test and manage (20–25%), then revise
The smallest domain and the one people skip. Do not skip it — a fifth of the exam is here and the material is quick to learn.
- Create a test set, choose an evaluation method, review results.
- Do the ALM work properly: create a solution, add existing agents to it, create and use environment variables, and implement Power Platform Pipelines.
- Then take a full practice exam under real conditions: 120 minutes, no notes.
- Sort mistakes into the three domains and rebuild the weakest.

A shortcut that is not a shortcut
It is tempting to read about MCP, A2A and computer use rather than configure them, because setting them up takes time. Resist it. These are the newest parts of the outline, the ones with the least written about them, and the ones the exam is most likely to test as “which mechanism fits this requirement”. Having wired each one up once makes those questions trivial; having only read about them makes them guesswork.
If time runs short, cut week 1’s planning reading — not week 3. Planning questions reward judgement you already have; integration questions reward having done it.
