AB-100 study resources
The best AB-100 resources are Microsoft’s study guide, the product documentation named in it, and one realistic design exercise you work through yourself. Because the exam is new and product names changed in the October 14, 2026 outline, be wary of any material that predates the update. Use practice questions to find your weak area, not as a substitute for the outline.
Start with the official material
The study guide and skills outline. Three domains: Plan (25–30%), Design (25–30%) and Deploy (40–45%). Read the section “Skills measured as of October 14, 2026” and its change log. Keep it open while you study.
The exam page. Microsoft’s AB-100 exam page lists the languages, the qualifying associate certifications and the instructor-led course. Its heading “Take a free practice assessment” appears on the page, but whether one is published for AB-100 should be checked on the page itself at the time you study; this guide does not assume it exists.
The instructor-led course. Microsoft lists Architecting agentic AI business solutions (course AB-100T00) as a course for architects and senior consultants. Microsoft itself says it is not a test-preparation course and focuses on architecture, trade-offs, governance and lifecycle rather than step-by-step configuration, so treat it as background, not as a way to learn the exam’s format.
The documentation named in the study guide. The guide points to Azure AI Foundry documentation, Azure AI services, Microsoft Copilot Studio documentation and Microsoft Power Platform documentation. These are the primary sources for the platform behaviour the exam assumes.
The exam sandbox and Exam Readiness Zone. Microsoft links an exam sandbox to see the interface, and a video series for exam readiness.
A design exercise that covers the outline
Pick one business process and work through it on paper, one outline area at a time:
- Plan. Is an agent justified? Write the grounding data you would use, rate it on accuracy, relevance, timeliness, cleanliness and availability, and make a build, buy or extend decision.
- ROI. Estimate benefits and total cost of ownership, and note where a model router would reduce cost.
- Design. Choose agent types and platforms (Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, Foundry), the knowledge sources, and any MCP or A2A connections.
- Deploy. Define monitoring metrics, a test set with pass criteria, and the ALM path through environments.
- Secure. Write the access model for grounding data, the residency position, the prompt manipulation mitigations and the audit trail.
Do it twice, with different processes. The second pass is faster and shows what you had not understood.
Hands-on practice
You do not need to build much, but try these once so the vocabulary is concrete:
- A Copilot Studio agent with a knowledge source, a topic and a fallback.
- An MCP tool added to a Copilot Studio agent.
- Moving a Copilot Studio solution between two environments.
- Reading the monitoring and analytics views of an agent.
Worth paying for
Practice tests written against the current outline. Their value is diagnosis. Start with the free 20-question test, weighted like the real exam.
What to avoid
- Material from before October 14, 2026, unless you reconcile it with the current outline and its product names.
- Braindumps. They break Microsoft’s exam agreement and do not help with scenario questions.
- Memorising menu paths. The exam tests design decisions, not click paths.
A sensible order
- Read the study guide and change log.
- Read the documentation for the products you know least.
- Do the design exercise.
- Take the practice test and find your weakest domain.
- Follow the study plan and book when you score 80% or more twice.
