AB-100 study plan: pass in 4 weeks

Updated October 9, 2026

Four weeks is realistic for AB-100 if you already hold an associate-level Microsoft AI, Power Platform or Dynamics 365 certification and study 8–10 hours a week. Spend week 1 on planning and strategy, week 2 on design, and weeks 3 and 4 on deployment, because Deploy is 40–45% of the exam. If Copilot Studio and Microsoft Foundry are new to you, allow six to eight weeks and build something in each.

Before you start

  • Read the official skills outline once, end to end. It is dated October 14, 2026 and lists every objective.
  • Open a Copilot Studio trial or developer environment, and keep access to Microsoft Foundry if you can. You will not configure much on the exam, but you cannot design well around tools you have never used.
  • Write a one-page description of a real or imaginary business process (for example an invoice query or a service case). You will design agents for it every week.
  • Sort your gaps into: Dynamics 365 apps, Copilot Studio, Foundry, governance and security.

Week 1: planning (25–30%)

Goal: decide where agents belong and whether it is worth doing.

  • Requirements: assess agents for task automation, analytics and decision-making; review data for grounding on accuracy, relevance, timeliness, cleanliness and availability; organise data so other AI systems can use it.
  • Strategy: the AI adoption process in the Cloud Adoption Framework for Azure, multi-agent design across Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio and Foundry, prebuilt agents, and when to build a custom agent or extend Microsoft 365 Copilot.
  • Models and prompts: when a custom model or a small language model is justified, prompt libraries, prompt engineering guidelines, and the AI Center of Excellence.
  • Cost and benefit: ROI criteria including total cost of ownership, build, buy or extend, and a model router.

Task: for your business process, write a two-column decision (build, buy, extend) with a rough ROI and TCO argument.

Week 2: design (25–30%)

Goal: match each requirement to the right agent type and platform feature.

  • AI and agents: task, autonomous and prompt-and-response agents; Copilot Studio topics including fallback; agent flows and prompt actions; when to use standard NLP, conversational language understanding or generative orchestration; Dynamics 365 copilots and Contact Center channels; data processing for grounding; the Power Platform Well-Architected Framework.
  • Extensibility: custom models in Foundry, agents in Microsoft 365 Copilot, MCP in Copilot Studio, computer use, reasoning and voice mode.
  • Prebuilt agents and apps: AI features in Dynamics 365 finance, supply chain, customer experience and service; Microsoft 365 Copilot for Sales and for Service; AI hub; knowledge sources for in-app help.

Task: draw your process as a multi-agent diagram and label each agent with type, platform and knowledge source.

Week 3: deploy, part one (40–45%)

Goal: know how you would run, measure and ship the solution.

  • Monitor and tune: monitoring process and tools, backlog and feedback analysis, performance metrics, telemetry for tuning.
  • Test: metrics and process for agent testing, validation criteria for custom models, prompt best practices, end-to-end scenarios across Dynamics 365 apps, test case creation with Copilot.
  • ALM: data, Copilot Studio agents with connectors and actions, Foundry Agents Service, custom models, and the Dynamics 365 finance, supply chain, customer experience and service scenarios.

Task: write a promotion path from development to production for your solution, with a test gate and a rollback.

Week 4: deploy, part two and review

Goal: security, governance and responsible AI, then the full run-through.

  • Security and governance: agent security, governance and model security; vulnerabilities and prompt manipulation; responsible AI review; data residency and movement; access controls on grounding data and tuning; audit trails for changes to models and data.
  • Review: take the 20-question practice test mid-week, then revisit the lowest domain with its guide: Plan, Design, Deploy.

Task: write a one-page governance note for your agents: who owns them, who can change them, what is logged.

If you are already experienced

Compress weeks 1 and 2 if you design solutions on Dynamics 365 or Power Platform already. Spend the saved time on the topics architects often skip: ROI and TCO, model routing, MCP and A2A, ALM for agents and models, and audit trails for model and data changes.

How to know you are ready

  • You can justify build, buy or extend for a given requirement in one sentence.
  • You can name the right agent type (task, autonomous, prompt and response) for a described scenario.
  • You can say what you would monitor, test and gate before production.
  • You can describe how access to grounding data is controlled and how changes to models are audited.
  • You score 80% or more on realistic practice questions twice in a row.

Then book it. See the exam format and the exam day guide.
