200-901 is the exam behind Cisco’s CCNA Automation certification. Its official title is Automating Networks Using Cisco Platforms (code CCNAAUTO). Until early 2026 the same exam number was known as the DevNet Associate exam (DEVASC), and it is the same exam under a new certification name. It lasts 120 minutes and tests software skills for network work: Python, data formats, Git, REST APIs, Cisco platform APIs, containers, CI/CD, Ansible and Terraform, plus networking fundamentals.

Cisco states that there are no prerequisites. A passed exam earns CCNA Automation, valid for three years. You do not need to hold a CCNA first, though the networking domain assumes you can read a simple topology.

If you searched for “DevNet Associate” or “DEVASC”, this is the right place. The exam topics document is titled v1.1, and Cisco’s release notes describe v1.1 as a minor revision of the DevNet Associate blueprint: the six domains stayed the same and some product names and tools were updated.

What the exam covers

DomainWeight
1.0 Software Development and Design15%
2.0 Understanding and Using APIs20%
3.0 Cisco Platforms and Development15%
4.0 Application Deployment and Security15%
5.0 Infrastructure and Automation20%
6.0 Network Fundamentals15%

APIs and infrastructure automation are the two heaviest domains. Even so, the spread is flat: no domain is below 15%, so you cannot skip one. You are expected to read and write short Python, interpret a Dockerfile, an Ansible playbook, a unified diff and RESTCONF output, and know what each Cisco platform API is for.

Where to start

Read the exam format for the mechanics, then 200-901 vs CCNA 200-301 if you are deciding between the automation exam and Cisco’s networking associate exam, which has its own section. The study plan fits in four weeks if you already write some Python, and each of the six domains has its own guide. Finish with the free 20-question practice test.
